It is not uncommon that after eating one of the Christmas periods, we find prey to nausea. Not even a coffee can take away this terrible feeling but infused with mint (or peppermint water) yes!

The property has a refreshing mint, digestive, carminative, and anti, antispasmodic which makes the remedy given against nausea, stomach pain and diarrhea also nervous. Is found easily in convenient tea bags from the supermarket and is also a purchase in anticipation of long journeys by car because if sipped throughout the journey – perhaps in a thermos – relieves symptoms of car sickness.

If we have a genuine vocation to the cultivation of plants on the balcony of the house, it is good to choose the most convenient solution that is already potted. An infusion is made preferably with leaves that are harvested only when in good condition and possibly made in the shade to dry in bundles and stored in glass jars away from light sources. An infusion is obtained with a teaspoon of leaves added to boiling water for a cup of tea or a tisaniera.

It is not necessary to add sugar. Recommended, instead, a teaspoon of honey, especially which of dandelion is a cure for the liver.

An effective remedy against the anxiety that often devours us especially in this season is a good and plentiful breakfast. Early, put the radio or put a CD of music that sends us joy, sit at the table and calmly eat light but nourishing food. Against anxiety and depression should preferably consume cereals (excellent oats!), Dried fruit, and low fat unsweetened yogurt (better than Greek). Yogurt can add some honey-acting sedative such as lime or orange which among other things we can prepare a delicious dish: walnuts with honey! Obviously have to limit if not avoid too much sugary foods because they create in our body and a peak just after a rapid fall in the rate of blood glucose with consequences such as nervousness, agitation, palpitations and so on. The same goes for the coffee: best green tea but with a low amount of protein as the Japanese tea Hojitcha or Kabuse with fruity aromas and excellent anti-stress or get advice from your trusted herbalist.

I remember when I was a child at the first signs of cold, but especially cough; my grandmother obtains a large onion and after briefly browned in a pan covered me for half an hour fixing it with the chest of the transparent film from the kitchen and cherry on the cake, by heating it with a hot water bag. The positive effects of cataplasm onion were and are – because I put it in place yet – because of the enormous property expectorant, antiviral and extremely beneficial for the respiratory system of the onion.

Ginger is a herbaceous plant originating in the Far East but already known to the Romans not only for its aromatic properties, but for its many therapeutic properties. But how to best exploit these virtues? We have sore throat? Root ginger, a small slice and in the mouth for a few minutes. The relief will not be immediate but not to: ginger, in fact, is a potent anti-inflammatory which gradually heal our bad throat!

We can also combine the properties of ginger with those of garlic that we know is a natural antibiotic in a sort of miraculous potion: a decoction of ginger (a piece of root) and garlic (one clove) to boil for about ten minute. To enhance the beneficial effects, add the lemon juice (rich in vitamin C) and eucalyptus honey (indicated by the ailments of the upper respiratory system). Ginger also has properties appetizing, digestive, carminative, which make it especially suitable to counter nausea and gastro-intestinal disorders in this period are affecting many of us. We can also think of exploiting the benefits to the end of the meal to facilitate digestion, particularly in anticipation of eating Christmas!

It must be said, however, that the root of ginger is quite expensive and not maintained very long but worth it!

Since I know that cooking can be very burn 70 calories, I try to give the kitchen the best of me, experiencing natural recipes strictly against those who are the misfortunes of the season. Today I would like to share with you the preparation of syrup with onions. Not the crooked nose, the onions are expectorant especially when added to honey.
We used 6 medium sized onions, a cup of honey best of eucalyptus and a cup of water. We put the ingredients in a baking dish and Bake at 160 degrees for about 90 minutes, then the onions should be met, we move everything to a sieve or colander with any but the meshes for then stir it all, including syrup, in baking dish. It should be a homogenous mixture to be taken several times a day, without complications except for an acceleration of the bowel movement.
Not bad right?

Bees are our best friends: a knowledge that comes with the dawn of civilization. The interest and love for the bees mainly derives from the cult for honey that is not considered only a food but a panacea for many ailments, a real natural antibiotic. Honey is, in fact, a mining and quarrying, trace elements and vitamins. But as we all make the most of his virtues to combat ailments of the season.

Honey better against the ailments of the respiratory tract is the eucalyptus honey for its antiseptic, expectorant, sedative cough. A teaspoon of honey can always add two or three drops of tincture of propolis to enhance the antibacterial effects. The fir tree honey is equally effective for the respiratory system but it must be said that as more liquid is often better appreciated. Because of lower density, the fir tree honey is well adapted to the preparation of two well-known remedies grandmother: the so-called “chicken milk and honey with cloves.

Against cold and fever mixed a tablespoon of honey and an egg yolk and then pour the mixture into a cup of hot milk.

Add five cloves – power by the anesthetic! – In a small jar of honey and let in the refrigerator for a whole night and the morning after removing the “intruders”, we will have a wonder cure for sore throats – to be stored in a refrigerator – to be drawn on during the day.

But why wait until they become ill to enjoy the flavors and thousand virtues of honey?

I know our ancestors and in more recent times of our grandmothers. The herbal medicine can be for many of us the solution to health problems more or less serious especially if combined with classical medicine, but in fact many medical practitioners who want to integrate with traditional therapies and herbal teas herbal syrups. We can exploit the properties of herbs through parent dye (TM), – found in all herbalists – infusions, decoctions, infusions, poultices, or even essential oils.
Having identified the part of the plant containing the active ingredients that made the drug and dry – but in the herbal medicine is ready for use – there sure on how to prepare. There are drugs, in fact, suitable for the preparation of an infusion: we boil water and pour immediately on drugs, it covers and the rest is done for about ten minutes before being sucked through the filter. More drugs when mixed, the term should be replaced by infusion of herbal tea. Others are added to water to boil and boil done – always with lid! - For about twenty minutes before being filtered: we are talking about the decoction. Cataplasm the other hand consists in the application of the plant directly to the skin in ways that vary from case to case and that we will see together.
Prepared kettles, sieves, especially tea and choose a good herbalist!

My advice for the gifts dell’ultim’ora is’ erboristeria. And here, in fact, we can find beauty products, herbal teas, herbal teas, incense, diffusers, candles, all simple and original gifts to people who like to physiotherapy, aromatherapy and consequences, does not know a great deal.

Just this morning my herbalist confidence gave me the Tea in bloom, a small pack and then compact it with the four compositions obtained by the tea leaves tied with a thread of cotton and flowers inside as jasmines, roses etc.. Leave to brew for about ten minutes in a transparent carafe or tisaniera with water at 80/90 °. The result – impressive!

We watched together as the sage may be useful for the preparation of an infusion-saving digestive system. If we do not have in the kitchen of the sage, perhaps with a little ‘luck we can get seeds of anise to prepare an infusion which can be consummates before meals as an aperitif and anti at the end of the meal as a digestive, or even over the day especially if you are prey to intestinal spasms.

The infusion of anise should be prepared with a teaspoon of seeds left to brew for 15-20 minutes in a cup of hot water.

After a meal, for combating annoying disturbances like ‘halitosis, especially when you feel your mouth kneaded, it is useful chewing anise seeds.

Important: anise should be avoided during pregnancy!
